The Quito Papers: towards the open city

Film screenings and panel discussions

With the support of Kaifeng Foundation and in partnership with UN Habitat, NYU and LSE Cities, Theatrum Mundi is launching a global series of film screenings and panel discussions on “The Quito Papers: towards an open city”. These events, to be held in Paris, London, Beijing and New York, premiere a film commissioned to document the ideas put forward by the “Quito Papers”, a research collaboration between Theatrum Mundi, NYU and UN-Habitat, developed in the run-up to the United Nations Habitat III conference held in Quito, Ecuador in October 2016.

“The Quito Papers: towards the open city” film is directed by Dom Bagnato and Cassim Shepard, with the collaboration of filmmakers in Beijing, Karachi, Lagos, London, New York, Quito, São Paulo and Mexico City.

Screenings will be followed by a discussion with panellists including the papers’ authors: Ricky Burdett (LSE Cities), Saskia Sassen (Columbia University), and Richard Sennett (New York University & LSE).

The series will launch in Paris, on December 7, 2016, with the support of the Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’homme under the Global Cities chair, the Pavillon de l’Arsenal and the City of Paris. The papers’ authors will be joined by Jean-Louis Missika, Deputy Mayor of Paris in charge of Urban Planning, Architecture, Grand Paris projects, Economic Development and Attractiveness.
