The workshops introduce a varied group of London Sixth Formers to some of the methodological challenges opened up by LSE Cities research project European Metromonitor. The project investigates the way in which European cities have responded to the 2008 recession. The workshops are structured around a number of computer-based exercises that explore the difficulties encountered in finding a comparable definition of a city for the 30 countries in the project sample, the various ways in which the performance of a city in an economic recession can be measured and the ways in which visualisations (both static and web-based) can be used to shed light on dynamics and allow for an interactive learning experience.
