Job vacancy: Communications Manager

LSE Cities is seeking a Communications Manager for a fixed-term period (funding available to 31 December 2014). The closing date for receipt of applications is 23:59pm GMT on 27th February 2012.

LSE Cities is a high-profile international research centre at the London School of Economics and Political Science that studies how the design of cities impacts on society, culture and the environment. A core objective of the centre is to provide high quality communications and outreach in order to ensure the dissemination of our research to the widest audiences, through international conferences, public lectures, expert seminars, publications and online communications, including the use of social media. We are now searching for an outstanding Communications Manager to build on the centre’s successes to date and to drive these forward to the next level.

The post-holder will have responsibility for all aspects of the centre’s communications and outreach, including strategy development and delivery, events, publications, website, press and media, and will work closely with the LSE Cities research team to ensure that research is communicated in the right way to have the most effective impact on diverse audience.

Candidates will have:

  • Outstanding communications skills in written and spoken English
  • Experience of developing and delivering successful communications strategy
  • Proven track record in developing and delivering online communications
  • Proven track record in commissioning work for publication
  • Ability to lead and motivate a small team

Job vacancy: Lecturer in Sociology

The Department of Sociology is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Sociology. The Department is looking for a well-qualified candidate with special interests in the fields of urban sociology and the sociology of cultural life and institutions. Applicants with additional interests in the areas of sociological theory would be particularly welcome.

The person appointed will teach on undergraduate and masters’ courses, supervise research students and play an active role in the administration of the Department.

Candidates will have a completed PhD in Sociology or a related discipline. A further requirement is a developing record of high quality publications that will contribute to the department’s research profile.
