Urban Age Conference Manager

LSE Cities is seeking a highly-organised and motivated Conference Manager to plan, manage and co-ordinate all aspects of delivering the Urban Age Electric City Conference in December 2012. Taking place in London, with some 400 invited participants from around the world, the event will focus on how the combined forces of technological innovation and the global environmental crisis are affecting urban society.

Applicants must have a proven track record in organizing and delivering significant conferences or events, together with excellent attention to detail and the ability to organise, prioritise, and meet deadlines. Outstanding communications skills in written and spoken English and the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with a range of colleagues, are essential.

Research Officer (GIS/Data Analysis)

Band 6: Research Officer, £32,148 – £38,887 pa inclusive

LSE Cities is seeking a Research Officer to provide effective quantitative, multi-scale research on cities with a strong emphasis on GIS and data analysis. The role further includes the provision of excellent design and visual communication to translate a wide range of quantitative data into engaging graphics, maps and other representations; and collaboration with other members of the team to produce high quality publications.

Applicants must have completed, or nearly completed, a Ph.D. in Geography, Urban Studies and Planning, or a related discipline with a strong focus on advanced GIS analytical techniques. Substantial experience in advanced analysis and management of GIS datasets for research purposes and a proven track record in complex data collection and statistical research, as well as experience of advanced mapping techniques and 3D visualisations are essential for this post.
