LSE Cities investigates the links between social and physical dimensions of cities. Over the last year, our research has focused on the environment and climate change in a series of projects that investigate how cities are becoming more innovative in promoting the green agenda. Some of this research is summarised in the data section of the Urban Age Electric City newspaper, providing a global overview of energy consumption and pollution patterns and detailed comparisons of density, transport and governance between established Urban Age cities – London, New York, Berlin, Istanbul, Mumbai and São Paulo – and a selection of ‘green pioneer’ cities – Hong Kong, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Portland, Singapore and Bogotá.
